History

The Mavety’s have been the fortunate stewards of the land that comprises Blue Mountain Estate for almost 50 years. In 1991, Ian and Jane Mavety, cellared the first vintage of Blue Mountain wines beginning a tradition of terroir driven wines reflective of this wonderful place in the Okanagan Valley.

Viticulture

We believe that great wine is made in the vineyard.

At Blue Mountain, all of our wines are made from estate-grown grapes grown on a single, contiguous site, where unique microclimates are apparent in each vineyard block. Our dry climate allows for low-intervention vineyard practices, reducing the need for sprays. We focus on soil health through cover crops, composting, and encouraging biodiversity throughout the vineyard. Our preferred vineyard vehicle has two wheels and a battery. Electric bikes help us move quietly through the rows, care for the vines, and tread lightly on the land.

From vine to bottle, our hands-on approach supports both sustainability and quality.

Viniculture

When it comes to vinification, our aim is to create wines that reflect the Okanagan, and in particular, this site.

Our process involves minimal intervention, with careful attention to handling practices from the early season in the vineyard through to harvest. Our fruit is hand-picked and sorted, then racked by gravity from barrel to barrel. While we are proud of the wines we produce, our singular focus is on cultivating the best fruit we can each season, allowing the character of the site to shine through with minimal intervention. Fastidious attention to detail allows us to craft wines that are consistent, precise, and expressive.
